Around the World in a Cup
A Machine Embroidery Design Collection
Travel the globe from your sewing room, one stitch at a time
Hello, I'm Cuppa!
I'm a rather well-traveled teacup (if I do say so myself), and I've spent years collecting the most beautiful beverage traditions from around the world. From the bustling tea houses of Istanbul to the quiet matcha ceremonies of Kyoto, from Viennese chocolate cafés to Mexican clay-mug kitchens - I've been everywhere a cup can go.
And now? I'm opening the door for you to join me on the most delightful journey.
This February, I'm sharing 12 of my favorite cups from around the world - each one telling the story of a beloved beverage, a unique culture, and the beautiful ritual of sitting down with something warm and wonderful in your hands.

What Will You Create?
Here's where the journey gets really exciting. Each cup design comes with everything you need to create finished projects - not just pretty embroidery designs, but actual usable, giftable, snuggle-worthy creations.
All projects are beginner-friendly with complete step-by-step instructions, fabric requirements, cutting guides, and detailed illustrations to guide you every step of the way.
Cuppa Coasters (6" diameter)
Start here! These delightful circular coasters feature one cup each and are absolutely perfect for beginners.
Each coaster can be finished two ways:
- Simple turned edge - finished entirely in the hoop (yes, really!)
- Narrow binding - much easier than you might think, and it adds a lovely polished finish
Mix and match your favorite cups to create a set that tells your story. Make a set of six featuring cups from countries you've visited. Create a tea lover's collection with just the tea cups. Or stitch all twelve and have options for every mood and every guest.
Perfect for gift-giving! A set of Cuppa coasters makes a thoughtful, handmade gift that actually gets used. Every time your friend has their morning coffee, they'll think of you.
24" x 24" Square Quilt
A charming small quilt featuring 6" squares - perfect for a table topper, wall hanging, or baby quilt.
What makes this special: Everything is quilted in the hoop! No wrestling with a large quilt sandwich under your sewing machine. Each block is already beautifully quilted when it comes out of your embroidery hoop.
You can stitch your blocks two ways:
Option 1 - Complete Beginner Method: Stitch your blocks with batting right in the hoop (appliqué and quilting happen at the same time!), trim the batting from the seam allowances, piece your blocks together, add backing, and stitch in the ditch. Done! This creates a structured quilt that's perfect for wall hangings or table toppers.
Option 2 - Confident Beginner Method: Stitch just the appliqué blocks in the hoop, piece them together into a quilt top, then layer with batting and backing and quilt the whole thing in the hoop. This creates a more flexible quilt - perfect for snuggling!
All cups are provided on both straight-up squares and on-point squares, so you can choose the look you love.
Choose your favorite 12 cups (or repeat favorites!) and create a quilt that's uniquely yours.
35" x 35" On-Point Quilt
All the magic of the square quilt, but bigger and with elegant on-point setting!
Featuring 6" squares set on the diagonal, this quilt creates a stunning diamond pattern that showcases each cup beautifully. The on-point setting adds visual interest and makes the quilt feel more sophisticated - but it's still completely beginner-friendly.
Same two stitching options as the 24" square quilt (complete beginner or confident beginner), same quilted-in-the-hoop ease, same ability to choose your favorite cups.
Perfect size for a lap quilt, generous table topper, or statement wall hanging.
24" x 24" Wedge Quilt
Something delightfully different! This quilt features wedge-shaped pieces that come together to create a circular design.
The quilting design looks like tea leaves! How perfect is that? Each wedge comes with beautiful tea-leaf quilting stitched right in the hoop.
Same beginner-friendly construction methods as the square quilts. The wedges might look fancy, but they're just as easy to create as squares - your embroidery machine does all the hard work.
This design creates such visual movement and interest. It's a showstopper that makes people say, "You made that?!"
60" x 16" Wedge Table Runner
The wedge design elongated into a stunning table runner!
This piece features the same wedge shapes with tea-leaf quilting, plus pieced-in-the-hoop triangles that go between the wedges. Everything is stitched in your hoop - the triangles, the wedges, the quilting - everything.
At 60" long, this makes a statement on any table. Dining table, coffee table, sideboard - anywhere you want to add beauty and celebrate your love of cups and cultures.
Like all the projects, you choose which cups to feature. Create a runner with all twelve cups for maximum variety, or choose a themed collection (all tea cups, or cups from a specific region).
Another gorgeous gift option - imagine giving this to a tea-loving friend or a hostess who appreciates handmade beauty.
Why "Quilted in the Hoop" Changes Everything
If you've ever been intimidated by quilting (wrestling large quilt sandwiches through your sewing machine, worrying about puckering, dealing with shifting layers), quilted in the hoop is a revelation.
Here's what it means:
Your embroidery machine does the quilting for you. Each block comes out of the hoop already quilted - the top and batting all secured together with beautiful stitching. No need for a long-arm quilting machine. No need to fight with large quilt sandwiches. No worry about uneven stitching.
You just hoop, stitch, and trim. Then piece your finished blocks together.
It's quilting made accessible, beautiful, and - dare I say it - actually relaxing.

A Note From Sarah
For years, I've been creating embroidery designs that mean something - that carry stories, that honor traditions, that bring beauty into the everyday moments of life.
This collection? It's one of my favorites.
Because it celebrates what I believe we're all craving right now: connection. Connection to other cultures. Connection to the slow, meditative practice of making. Connection to the people we create for and share with.
Every cup in this collection represents a moment of pause - a ritual of warmth, hospitality, and human kindness that transcends borders.
When you stitch these designs, something quieter happens too. You're participating in something bigger. You're saying yes to curiosity, to learning, to creating beauty with intention.
I'm so glad you're here. I'm so glad Cuppa gets to take you on this journey.
Let's travel the world together - one stitch, one cup, one warm moment at a time.
With gratitude,
Sarah Vedeler
